Most of my life, I thought success meant saying YES.
Yes to more projects. Yes to new clients. Yes to networking events. Yes to parties/family obligations/kids playdates/everything-under-the-sun.
So I said yes.
I tried to do it all.
And burnt myself to the ground.
Now I have a new magic word: NO.
No to back-to-back meetings. No to weird friends requests. No to time-sucks and toxic people.
Success starts with saying NO.
Everything comes with an opportunity cost.
A while back, I turned away a rather large project because I wasn’t absolutely in love with it.
I thought I made a huge mistake…
Until the next week, one of the biggest projects I’d ever had landed right in my inbox!
The new client had already seen my content on LinkedIn and didn’t need any convincing or negotiating about my price.
If I had taken on the first so-so project, I would’ve had to turn down this phenomenal opportunity.
Long story short, don’t be afraid to say no to new clients, new projects, and new opportunities if they aren’t right for you right now.
Try it out sometime.
