Wanna be a crazy good writer?
>> Become BFFs with boredom. <<
To become great at any skill you need to practice over and over…EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. For years. Decades, even.
For most people, that gets BORING, FAST.
The writers who succeed are the ones who keep going, even after the novelty has worn off.
Even after the original motivation has disappeared and all they have left is willpower.
The best writers embrace boredom and use it to fuel their creativity.
Instead of reaching for distractions (social media, TV, video games etc) to banish that uncomfortable feeling in their gut, they are able to sit with this discomfort.
Most of my best ideas come to me when I’m doing boring things (dishes, cleaning, staring out the window, walking to the store) and my mind is freely roaming.
Writers who stick around the longest…those who dedicate their lives to the craft…they don’t just survive boredom, they thrive because of it.
